American Soldier

1. The most powerful picture in my opinion was the "Down and Dirty" photograph. It shows the struggle Ian was holding in, and the pain he was facing. It has the gun, the flag, and he is in his uniform surrounded by his gear making it a very self explanatory photo, but a great one. 2. The photos are taken at different points in Ian's life over the course of a year. The photos from the beginning of it all show Ian saying goodbye to all his friends and family and his efforts to try and fit in the Army. As the photos go on, you can see the hardships he goes through, and the kind of experiences he faces and has to decide on. These factors all help put a story together with just photos. 3.The captions for all photos were really detailed and descriptive, which really helped the reader see what the photo was about. Each caption had what all captions should have, present tense, action verbs, date and, the 5 W's. These factors really described what was happening in the photos...

Biography of Lee Friedlander

At the age of 14, Lee started photographing his surroundings. People, places, humor, etc. He went to school for a short period of time at the Art Center School in Los Angeles.    After school, he then moved to New York, and frequently took photos of the well known jazz musicians Duke Ellington and Charles Mingus. He then grew a title as a popular known street artist.    Friedlander made his big debut when a very famous man named John Szarkowski included Lee in an exhibition called "New Documents." Friedlander won many awards including the Hasselblad Award.    Lee's first book published was called "Self-Portrait" in 1970, followed up by another book called In the Picture: Self-Portraits, 1958-2011 . Front Pages of the World

1. My favorite newspaper I came across was one from Bismark, North Dakota called "The Bismark Tribune." This one is my favorite because it has eye capturing photos and not over taking text that looks too wordy. Also it has a calm color scheme that is nice to the eye. 2. My favorite headline from the newspaper is "Panda cub Bao Bao bound for China" because it is about pandas, and who doesn't want to read about a baby panda named Bao Bao? 3. There are 3 main stories on my front page, and a long caption to a photo. 4. All the newspapers I looked at have around 4 stories on the front page, 2-3 photos, and one dominant headlining story. 5. Something very different between all the newspapers is obviously language, and how the pages are laid out. All of them have different layouts which make them unique. 1. Something that our school newspaper has that other normal newspapers don't have is more personal stories and something that can relate to a younger crowd ...
